The fire drill was attended by 17 international students, researchers, and their family members, all who have been in Yonezawa for less than a year.
At first, an explanation was given by a representative of the fire prevention company regarding what to do when the fire alarm goes off.
In the second part, participants learnt and practiced what to do in the event of a fire. Representatives from the Yonezawa Fire Department instructed participants to escape while bending low and covering their mouths with a handkerchief to avoid breathing in toxic gases.
The participants learned to practice 3 things in the event of a fire: calling 119, informing others in the vicinity, and fire extinguishing.
