Requirements:

- People who may attend lessons:

- International students and researchers, and their family members.
- Anyone who has been given approval by the director of the International Exchange Center.

*If too many students sign-up, priority will be given to students, researchers, and their family members in that order.

- Students and researchers must receive approval from their adviser or professor.
- As a general rule, participants must attend all classes they enroll in.

- Subjects with an asterisk (*) are not available to family members of international students.
- There are other subjects to learn business Japanese for job hunting. We will let you know once we decide on the details.

Application:

- Period: Current Students September 25, 2024 (Mon) ~ October 3, 2024 (Thu)
- Where to apply: International Exchange Center Office, Building 9, 1F Room 100-11
- Application Procedure:
- New students
- Make a reservation at the International Exchange Center Office for a placement test.
- Take the placement test (written test and interview).
- Based on the results of the test, you will be informed by a member of the International Exchange Center concerning which courses you should apply for.
- Fill in an application form in Japanese or English and have it signed by your advisor or professor.
- Submit the signed application form to the International Exchange Center Office.
- Returning students

- Fill in an application form in Japanese or English. If your grade was ‘F’ in the previous semester, you may not attend a higher level class. In such cases, the applicant should consult a faculty member of the International Exchange Center.
- Have the application form signed by your advisor or professor.
- Submit the signed application form to the International Exchange Center Office.

Choice of classes
You are free to choose from any of the offered classes. It is important that you choose classes appropriate to your level of Japanese. If a faculty member of the International Exchange Center determines that a certain class is not appropriate for your level of Japanese, your enrollment may be refused.

Miscellaneous

- Please prepare all of the course materials assigned by the instructor.
- Upon completion of each course, you will receive a letter grade according to the following scheme:
- 100~90% S
- 89~80% A
- 79~70% B
- 69~60% C
- 59~0% F
- Students will be directly informed of their final grades. A detailed explanation of the grading procedure will be provided by the instructor in class.
- Your advisor or professor may be informed of your grade upon request.
- The students will not receive credits for these classes (Subject 1 to 12). However, Tohoku MITLAI students are able to receive credits for subjects 11 and 12.
