From September 10th to 19th, 10 undergraduate and Masters students from Yamagata University Faculty of Engineering (YUFoE) visited our sister school Northeast Electric Power University (NEEPU) in the Jilin province of China. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Summer Program and the 22nd anniversary of our partnership with NEEPU, which was the first university for YUFoE to establish a faculty-level exchange agreement with in 1995. Students from YUFoE were given the chance to experience student life at a Chinese university by staying at a student dormitory, attending college courses with Chinese students and international students, and practicing Tai Chi. YUFoE students also presented about Yamagata University and Japanese culture to students from NEEPU and their presentations were met with great enthusiasm.

During the program, we were also given the opportunity to tour two Chinese companies specializing in the manufacturing of construction materials and experience the manufacturing process hands on. On the final day of the program, we visited our sister school Jilin University (JLU) in Changchun city and were given the chance to tour research facilities and talk with students from the JLU Faculty of Engineering. Overall, the 10 days spent in China were a great learning experience for all participants both Japanese and Chinese and we look forward to our continued collaboration with our partner universities NEEPU and JLU.
